Bora

Carso

Carso is a rocky calcareous plateau that stretches along the eastern border of the region. It is the ideal destination for excursions surrounded by nature and history, with numerous remains of trenches from the First World War. There you can find walking itineraries, museums and thematic parks dedicated to this history.

Isonzo

The Isonzo River flows nearby and has had a profound impact on the history of our region and of Italy as a whole. It flows into the Isola della Cona Regional Nature Reserve, which is open to visitors year-round. There, you can see the wild white horses that inhabit the area and enjoy unforgettable excursions, including bike rides.

Sissi

Sissi, nickname of Empress Elisabeth of Austria from Bavaria, stayed many times at the iconic Miramare Castle. A must-see destination, the castle runs out into the sea on top of a cliff, overlooking the Marine Protected Area, and is surrounded by a vast park housing the adjoining museums.

Miramare

Falesia

The Falesia is the characteristic rocky cliff overlooking the sea that characterizes our coastal area from Monfalcone to Trieste, the Carso area, and beyond. An ideal destination for panoramic walks with views of the gulf, such as in the Duino Cliffs Nature Reserve, along the Rilke Trail, or on the Napoleonic Road in Opicina; it is also a popular climbing area. Don’t miss also a visit to the Grotta Gigante, the world’s largest tourist cave.
